That’s a Wrap: BMC TrailCrew Experience
In late October, Chasing Epic teamed up with the crew at BMC Switzerland to host a lucky group of rippin’ riders from all across North America for the first annual TrailCrew Experience. For three days, we rode bucket-list epics like Gooseberry Mesa, Little Creek, Guacamole and the JEM Trails- the perfect testing grounds for an entire fleet of brand new 2018 BMC TrailFox and SpeedFox bikes.

The riders were split into riding-ability groups on Day One and hit the trails, with some heading to Gooseberry Mesa and others to Guacamole Mesa. Over the course of the three days, they all got to taste what the area had to offer: technical slickrock features, endless views, and flowy singletrack that will keep them dreaming about Hurricane for months to come.

Prior to the trip, we teamed up with the guys at BMC to offer the riders their choice of weapon for the trip: oddly enough, it was an almost-even split between the SpeedFox 27.5″ bike, a SpeedFox 29er, and the long-travel TrailFox. Depending on the size, the SpeedFox offers more efficiency and slightly less travel (120mm or 130mm), while the beefy TrailFox is a long-travel machine offering 150mm of rear travel paired to a 160mm RockShox Lyrik up front.
Know what’s nice about having the entire BMC demo fleet on hand? You can swap bikes and try something new on day two- and a few of the riders did exactly that, swapping out for a different feel for a new trail. While a trail like Gooseberry Mesa is tight, twisty and undulating, by contrast Little Creek Mesa is long and stretched out. Which bike would you choose?
“I can’t even put into words just how much fun I had on all of the trails that we rode. They pushed me to, and past my limits. I came out unscathed, and a much better rider! If you’re considering hitting up a future BMC TrailCrew Experience, I highly recommend you do it soon!”
After getting their fill of Gooseberry Mesa and Little Creek Mesa the first two days, they were given a choice of the famous (and flowy) JEM Trail system or Guacamole. Once again, the decisions were evenly split with half the riders hitting 15+ miles on the JEM trails, and the other half choosing the more technical Guacamole Mesa. Seriously, you can’t go wrong out here!
The Chasing Epic van hides in the tall sage brush near the JEM Trail, waiting for the group of riders to finish an incredible Day Three in Hurricane. Thanks again to our awesome partners at Longmont Ford!
From all of us at Chasing Epic, we’d like to thank the crew at BMC for supporting the event in full- we couldn’t have done it without you! Catherine, Devin, Andrew- you guys all rip, and you’re amazing to hang with and truly represent the BMC brand in style. To the 18 lucky riders who joined us- it was a pleasure to meet and ride with each and every one of you, and we’re psyched you got to experience one of our top Chasing Epic locations during the best time of the year.
We’re already looking forward to the 2018 BMC TrailCrew Experience… but where will it be? Until then, CHEERS:
