Singletrack Sampler: Monarch Crest 2020

Chasing Epic and The Singletrack Sampler are heading back to the Colorado high country for another epic fall trip on September 18-21, 2020!  This time we’re heading to a new location, the world-famous Monarch Crest trail system based in Salida, CO.  For three of the days, we’ll shuttle trails in the area to maximize vertical.  On the fourth day, we’ll include a big “pedal/push” day that will be one of the most epic you’ve ever done.  No kidding.

For this trip, expect to put in BIG miles each and every day (start training now!).  This trip is going to focus on rowdy, technical riding with big descents and long days in the saddle.  And since Alexander has spent so much time in the area, he’ll have a special hand in designing our itinerary for this trip.  Expect nothing but the best.

All Chasing Epic trips include absolutely everything you need for an amazing trip: just bring your shoes, backpack, and sense of adventure and we’ll take care of the rest.  We’re the only mountain bike adventure travel company that includes high-end bikes in every one of our trips (you’ll receive an email after registration with further instructions)!

Planned Itinerary

Day 1: This afternoon we’ll whet our appetite for big downhill with a shuttle up to the top of the Monarch Crest (about 11,000 feet) for a ride on Starvation Creek.  This includes about 11 miles on the beginning of the “proper” Monarch Crest, until we drop down early to Starvation Creek, a 7-mile, 2500 foot descent.  For a half-day ride, this one’s going to be big!

Day 2: Heading west out of Salida for about 45 minutes, today we’re going to tackle Canyon Creek.  EPIC ALERT!  Today’s ride will combine what’s likely to be the longest climb, and longest descent you’ve ever ridden (or pushed).  All told, today’s ride will be about 21 miles with just over 3,500 feet of elevation gain/loss.  Enduro riders have to earn their turns once in a while too!

Day 3: Another EPIC ALERT!  Today we’re going to run a double shuttle off Monarch Crest, including two amazing world-famous descents: Greens Greek and Fooses Creek.  All told we’ll end up with about 27 miles today, but almost 20 of that will be descending with over 7,000 vertical!  Greens and Fooses are the perfect combination of high country downhills, with just enough rocky, technical terrain mixed in with flow.

Day 4: This morning we’re going to shuttle a couple laps on the Cottonwood Trails, just outside of town.  Because we don’t have to earn our turns quite as much, we’ll be able to do two laps for a combined 15-16 miles and about 4,000 feet of descending.
