Featured Trail: Gooseberry Mesa in St. George, UT

Gooseberry Mesa mountain biking st. George Utah

Kicking off our new column of spotlighting an “epic ride” in each one of our eight locations  is Gooseberry Mesa, an incredible ride just outside of St. George, UT and not far west of Zion National Park.  Thanks to several different interconnecting trails on the mesa, you can choose the length of ride that fits you best, and come back for more if you’re not satisfied!

Gooseberry Mesa offers an incredible mix of slickrock and dirt singletrack, and is slightly higher in elevation than the rest of the St. George-area trails.  There aren’t any big climbs, but instead you get rolling, semi-technical terrain that can keep you entertained for hours.  The trail originated as a true mountain bike trail, so a lot of thought went into the flow, views, and overall layout of the trail network.

For beginners, there’s the “Slickrock 101” area, that includes gently rolling terrain on world-famous slickrock sandstone.  For those of you a little more adventurous, there’s the “God’s Skateboard Park”, which offers features and stunts to keep you busy for hours.  You can bet that on each one of our St. George trips, we’ll be spending some time on “the mesa” to experience one of the best rides in Utah.

Here’s a great video of the ride from Max Rhulen, posted on Vimeo:
